This week on Fangirl Happy Hour, Ana and Renay discuss the first volume of the mythic western comic, Pretty Deadly, created by Kelly Sue DeConnick and Emma Ríos, and talk about mythology and the way art impacts a story. Then they fall into the SF Awards abyss and discuss a collection of award short lists and winners (and inevitably fail to not talk about the Hugos — we tried, friends). Finally, they lightly touch upon No Proper Lady by Isabel Cooper before careening off into a discussion of romance tropes, pop culture pasts, and language.

This week on Fangirl Happy Hour, Ana and Renay read The Duchess War by Courtney Milan and do some light excavation of their romance reading pasts. Then, they look at book marketing, publicity, and how one person’s good marketing is another person’s wish for certain books to just go away already. Lastly, they read Captain Marvel Volume 1: Higher Further Faster More by Kelly Sue DeConnick and discuss their thoughts about Carol and cry over Marvel comics in general.
